Built by the architects of Vienna Helmer and Fellner, whose works can be admired in several cities of Central Europe, this Renaissance building was built between 1886 and 1887.
In response to the opening of the National Theater, this opera was funded by the German community of Prague and inaugurated with a work by Wagner in 1888. Its large auditorium and its neo-rococo adornments saw famous characters ranging from Gustav Mahler to Richard Strauss.
Programming: Essentially Italian operas (The Masquerade Ball, Nabucco and Sicilian Vespers of Verdi and A Tosca by Puccini). In addition, it is worth mentioning a great adaptation of the ballet My Homeland of Smetana.
