The municipality of Candela is the starting point of the so-called Desert Route, which includes a tour of the main sights of the Center and Desert region, in the municipalities of Monclova, Frontera, Nadadores, San Buenaventura and Cuatro Ciénegas. Candela can be considered as a 'fortress' of antiquity. 90% of its inhabitants were Carrancistas, so any house where Venustiano Carranza's forces arrived in 1913 would become a fort to defend against the enemy. At the time of the Mexican Revolution, Candela was chosen by Venustiano Carranza as a strategic point of struggle, as it was a forced passage from the feds to the city of Laredo.



Carranza himself ordered the construction of the railway station, which today looks impressive on the outskirts of Nuevo León. Candela's name is due to a rock that protrudes between the mountains of the road and resembles a giant sail or sail. At the municipal headquarters, visitors can enjoy the facades of houses with historic architecture, as well as the Municipal Presidency. Next to the train station is El Chapote Creek, where the states of Nuevo León and Coahuila converge, in the municipalities of Lampazos and Candela. After the creek, five kilometers away, El Carrizal hill is born and about 100 meters the "El Carrizal" road, which leads to the caves where the El Chapote creek appears above.
