Upon the arrival of the Spaniards to the Bogotá savanna in 1537, the chief of Suesca secretly informed the Zipa Tisquesusa that Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada wanted his treasure. This gave the Zipa time to travel with 600 Usaques to Facatativá. Quezada, upon learning of Tisquesusa's flight, ordered his soldiers to pursue them. On the night of October 15, 1537, Tisquesusa was mortally wounded by Quesada's troops at the place called Las Piedras del Tunjo. Aware of the proximity of his death, Tisquesusa asked the Usaques to take him to a hidden place where he died, after which his body was buried on the Mancilla hill.





Facatativá is one of the 116 municipalities in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. It is located in the province of Sabana Occidente, its capital being 42 km from Bogotá.

Piedras de Tunjo Archaeological Park

It is the main attraction of Facatativá and a destination for tourists who come from other parts of the country. It is also known as Las Piedras de Tunjo.
