Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls boasts spectacular views with breathtaking beauty on the Zambezi River, forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in 1800 as 'Mosi-oa-Tunya' - 'The thundering smoke'. In more modern terms, Victoria Falls is known as the world's largest waterfall curtain.
The Victoria Falls produce the largest cloud of water vapor in the world for almost two kilometers, making it one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a UNESCO heritage site.
The broad basalt cliff over which the falls thunder turns the Zambezi from a calm river into a fierce torrent that runs through a series of canyons.
Facing the Falls is another basalt wall, rising at the same height and covered by a mist-soaked rainforest. A path along the edge of the forest provides the visitor prepared to face the tremendous spray, with an unrivaled array of views of the falls.
The viewpoint on the other side of the Knife-edge Bridge is where visitors can get the best view of the East and Main Falls, as well as the Boiling Pot, where the river turns over and down the Batoka Gorge. Other viewpoints include Livingstone Island, Falls Bridge, Devils Pool and Lookout Tree, both with panoramic views of the main falls.

When to go
Different times of the year provide completely different experiences. The high season is in the flood season around March and April, when all the power of the Falls can be admired in all its glory. Due to the spray masses rising from the falling water, the full width of the falls cannot be seen on foot. The aerial view right now is spectacular, with spray clouds rising high in the sky. As the floods subside, the view of the Falls gets better and better throughout the year, but at least around November and December, the Falls become small streams. running over the edge and in some places along the 1.7 km wide, the water does not fall. The pleasure of visiting the Falls this season is the view of the impressive cliffs that form the wall of the Falls, and the magnitude of the abyss can be fully appreciated.
How to get
The falls can be reached from the town of Livingstone by traveling south on the Mosi-oa-Tunya road for about 11 kilometers. Just before the border, there is a right turn that leads to a parking area. Tours across the falls are accessible from this point. If you are approaching Zimbabwe, cross the border into the city of Victoria Falls and observe the left turn just past Zambia Customs Post.
