We can then call a fossil footprints that were drawn in what has been transformed into rock, insects enclosed within vitrified materials, imprints or drawings of plants fixed on a rock or mineral structures that preserve the shape of bones belonging to vertebrates . So when you talk about fossils, you are not talking about bones. Nor was oil formed from fossils (fossils are minerals and oil is made of organic substances). The latter has nothing to do with the subject, but it is a frequent error and is relevant.



Most of the paleontological pieces are extracted from the ravines in the area and after conditioning, they are exhibited in the Museum. These pieces are from the late Pleistocene, since the sedimentary zone originated at that time.



The canyons source of the findings are some 18 to 20 km of cliffs, in which a trained eye sees thousands of years of geological history.



The sea, through its erosive power, like a natural excavator, little by little is discovering hundreds of fossils throughout the entire ravine area. The same sea that discovers it, with the movement of the tide, is also responsible for destroying it by carrying it away as it does with all the material it finds on the coast, for this reason the ´´official collectors´´ of fossils, really rescue pieces whose purpose it would be the total loss of its existence.

In the town of Santa Clara, we can find a Paleontological Museum (organized by neighbors and now with municipal help) in which you can find a series of stands in which the visitor is transported to times in which these lands walked, animals today extinct.
